Moonglow by the Bay

Taken from the same perspective as the sunrise, this corona created around the moon is caused by cold particles in the atmosphere. As you will notice, the north tower (left) of the Golden Gate is a bit obscured by the thin marine layer and provides an almost dream like soft focus to the lower thirds of the image. This shot again freezes a moment in time. Beyond the Golden Gate is the Bay Bridge on the left and middle and of course, San Francisco on the right.

Golden Gate

The golden gate is actually the area where the ocean meets the bay. The bridge is the demarcation line of sorts that is why it is named as such. This has the same perspective taken in the same area where the labyrinth was only half an hour earlier because the belt of Venus is not visible yet. The cliff provides an anchor that leads the eye to the Golden Gate Bridge.

The Labyrinth and the Golden Gate

This gives a different perspective of the Golden Gate not commonly seen in pictures. The labyrinth exists in three areas around the bay area and isn't an easy place to reach. I love this shot because of the color and the different perspective with the labyrinth as the foreground leading the eyes to the Golden Gate Bridge. Calmness is the word that comes to mind. Taken around sunset. Just as an anecdote, I got lost on my return because it was totally dark by the time I left and with some vegetation obscuring the path I missed it. Note to self: next time bring a headlamp and flashlight.

Golden Gate Sunrise

This image depicts a typical summer pattern in San Francisco where the fog or marine layer cover the entire City. The sun just peaked for a little bit to show a bit of "God's rays" and showed some reflection on the bay. The colors of the bridge are not as vivid because this was shot against the light almost like a silhouette. This is unique and captures a moment in time.

Moonset at the Golden Gate Bridge

Golden Gate Bridge San Francisco, California March 2012 Year 2012 was an exceptional year for my night photography. This was taken across from the East Bay so we're talking at least eight to ten miles as the crow flies. This is one shot of the moon seemingly touching the span of the Golden Gate. No camera trick was used as in all my photos. This image has balance and symmetry and again is unique in perspective. Since this was taken in the early hours before dawn, the image is a bit "noisy" (a lot of specs) and the seemingly not perfect circle full moon is caused by atmospherics. There is distortion as the lens captures images across bodies of water. Despite the noise, this is still one of my favorites.

Moonset on the Quadrant

Taken from the East Bay, I came back to the same location a year after I shot the moonset on the span to capture it with more light. Shooting it the following year meant that the moon will not be in the same place. This shot has more light and color. The moon on the left balances with the Marin headlands on the right.

Trawler on the Moonset

The fisherman leaves the bay for his first catch. This image has all the elements to it. Even the seagull on the left helps create balance and a serenity on the early morning hours. The belt of Venus (slight magenta on top) adds color and a patina to the "international orange" color of the Golden Gate. This is the south tower of the Golden Gate with Fort Mint on the middle left side. Shot with my most expensive camera that I use both for sports and landscape. I have since sold that camera but the lens is still with me. With Treasure Island's construction going full blast, this image cannot be captured again for the next few years because they've cordoned off the area with cyclone fences.
