Every year during Columbus Day, the city of Half Moon Bay hosts the Giant Pumpkin Weigh Off . These are giants gourds that are not edible. Overheard that the expenses to maintain and care for these 2,000 lb. entries cost more than the prize money so its purely bragging rights. :-)
